Cruise lines delay restart dates for vessels stranded in Gulf

  • Six cruise ships have remained stuck in the Arabian Gulf since late February 2026.
  • The MSC Euribia is scheduled to resume service from Kiel on 2 May 2026.
  • Celestyal Journey and Celestyal Discovery will restart from Greece on 1 and 2 May 2026.
  • Mein Schiff 4 and Mein Schiff 5 are set to resume from Spain and Greece on 1 May 2026.
  • The Aroya will begin Red Sea cruises from Jeddah on 14 May 2026.

Cruise lines have delayed restart dates for vessels stranded in the Arabian Gulf due to ongoing safety concerns in the Strait of Hormuz. Six ships remain docked in the region since late February with repositioning to Europe and other areas postponed. The vessels now have new scheduled departure dates in early May 2026.

The MSC Euribia has stayed in Dubai after the cancellation of its remaining Arabian Gulf season and is now set to begin summer cruises to the Norwegian Fjords from Kiel on 2 May 2026. Celestyal Cruises has cancelled all Mediterranean sailings for the Celestyal Journey and Celestyal Discovery through the end of April with both ships expected to resume service from Greece on 1 May and 2 May 2026 respectively. TUI Cruises has also adjusted schedules for the Mein Schiff 4 and Mein Schiff 5 which are now scheduled to restart from Palma de Mallorca and Heraklion on 1 May 2026.

The Aroya has completed its first Arabian Gulf cruise and will now begin a spring season in the Red Sea from Jeddah on 14 May 2026. Cruise lines have contacted affected guests and offered rebooking or full refund options for the cancelled sailings.

MSC Cruises shared in a written statement “Guests booked on cancelled sailings are being contacted directly and provided with information regarding their options.”

Celestyal Cruises shared in a written statement “The company has been unable to start the ship’s repositioning back to Europe as intended.”
