- United Airlines and Delta Air Lines stabilised after technology glitch
- Issue began Monday causing website and app failures
- United MileagePlus logins blocked by vendor issue
- Delta suffered data connectivity issue affecting backend systems
- Flight operations largely unaffected once systems stabilised
Major US legacy airlines including United Airlines and Delta Air Lines have stabilised operations after a temporary vendor technology glitch disrupted customer systems and apps. The issue began on Monday, causing global reporting of website and app failures, as well as boarding gate delays for travellers attempting to check in or log into their accounts.
United Airlines encountered a brief technical breakdown linked to an external vendor that blocked passengers from logging into their MileagePlus accounts. The airline confirmed that the bug was resolved by Tuesday afternoon with no lingering impacts on active flight operations. Delta Air Lines confirmed it suffered a data connectivity issue that impacted its back-of-house technology systems globally. By Tuesday evening, Delta’s backend systems had stabilised and the carrier was functioning normally. American Airlines did not issue a formal statement, though third-party monitoring services like DownDetector registered similar tech problems on the American Airlines website and app during the peak of Monday’s disruption.
The industry-wide disruption highlights the high reliance of modern commercial carriers on shared, third-party software networks. The incident was less severe than historical system-wide IT gridlocks. Flight operations were largely unaffected once systems stabilised.
