A survey of 2,000 business travellers conducted by Opinium in February 2025 highlights suggests they take more risks when on on work trips.
Of respondents, 70pc admit to risky behaviour while travelling, which they wouldn’t consider at home, reflecting a trend among younger travellers. There is a marked generational divide, with those aged 18-34 more inclined to engage in hazardous choices compared to older colleagues.
Employers face legal responsibilities in ensuring the safety and well-being of travelling employees. Experts recommend educating employees on potential risks and making necessary preparations before business trips.
Frank Harrison of Opinium shared, “While engaging in these kinds of risky behaviours may seem fun at the time, they not only endanger the traveller but also place employers in a challenging position. This data is a reminder of companies’ legal and moral obligation to ensure the safety of travelling employees, Before they travel, employers should educate employees on local risks, help them plan ahead, and make sure they’re prepared to make safe decisions while on the road.”
