Aer Lingus Responds to US Airlines on Dublin Airport passenger cap

Aer Lingus states that Airlines for America exaggerates the magnitude and scope of potential harm from a CJEU ruling on Dublin Airport passenger cap enforcement.

The airline said that any retaliatory measures against Irish carriers by the US administration would be unjustified and unnecessary. Aer Lingus has asked the US Department of Transportation to deny or defer the A4A complaint to allow Irish legislative and judicial processes to continue without interference.

Dublin Airport operates under an annual passenger cap of 32 m but handled 36.4 m passengers last year. An advocate general of the Court of Justice of the European Union believes the Irish Aviation Authority can restrict take-off and landing slots to comply with the cap.

Aer Lingus lawyers shared “Dire warnings and hyperbole aside, the advocate general’s decision is limited, by its terms, to the Irish passenger cap and to the determination of capacity at Dublin” Aer Lingus lawyers. Rretaliatory measures remain unjustified and unnecessary, and they would harm not only Aer Lingus but its valued US partners.”
