Air France-KLM CEO Benjamin Smith says the airline group is still interested in a privatised TAP Air Portugal, despite the group’s lower-than-expected results for the second quarter of 2024.
The group faced challenges with rising fuel prices and cost pressures, leading to a hiring freeze and cost-cutting measures to adapt to the situation.
Air France-KLM reported an operating result of €513m for the quarter, down €220m from the same period last year, with factors such as fuel costs, cargo revenues, and the impact of the Olympic Games contributing to the decrease.
The group emphasised its commitment to fleet renewal with more fuel-efficient and quieter aircraft, aiming to increase the ratio of new-generation aircraft in its fleet to 80% by 2030 and phasing out older-generation aircraft.
