An appeal has been lodged to An Bord Pleanála after Galway City Council refused the planning permission for a new 15-storey hotel in Galway City Centre, proposed by Summix BNM Developments Limited in April 2024.

The project included the demolition of a vacant industrial structure and the construction of a 189-bedroom hotel with parking, outdoor seating, signage, and other associated works.

Galway City Council cited reasons for refusal including the excessive density, scale, and height on a constrained site, road safety issues, and the detrimental impact on a nearby protected structure and archaeological site.

This is the second time the project has faced refusal, as a previous application for an eleven-storey hotel and leisure complex was also rejected by both the council and An Bord Pleanála in 2020.
