The United States Department of Justice has announced that it will not prosecute Boeing concerning the B737 MAX crashes that resulted in the deaths of 346 individuals.

An in-principle non-prosecution agreement has been reached, allowing Boeing to avoid a criminal conviction while providing accountability and benefits to the public.

Boeing will admit to conspiring to obstruct the Federal Aviation Administration and will pay over USD1.1 billion, including penalties and compensation for crash victims’ families.

The agreement will require Boeing to enhance its compliance and ethics programme, including independent monitoring and communication of improvements to the government.

Paul Cassell shared, “This kind of non-prosecution deal is unprecedented and obviously wrong for the deadliest corporate crime in US history,” reflecting the concerns of some victims’ families regarding the agreement
