Castlemartyr developer Capella to open 18th hotel in Taipei

Capella Hotel Group is set to launch its first property in Taipei, Capella Taipei, on 1 April, located in the Dunhua North Road district of Taipei.

The hotel will feature 86 rooms, including eight suites and six with private pool terraces, designed by acclaimed designer André Fu to create a calming atmosphere.

Amenities will include a rooftop pool, two events spaces, a spa, and five diverse restaurants, including Ember 28, Rong Ju, and Mizue, each offering unique culinary experiences.

Capella Taipei will introduce the Capella Curates programme, connecting guests to local artisans and culinary experts while providing tailored cultural experiences.

This opening marks a strategic expansion for Capella in the Asia-Pacific region, with additional properties planned in Osaka for Q2 and Q4 of this year.

Capella Hotel Group was founded in 2002 by long-time Ritz-Carlton head Horst Schulze, and was developing two Irish properties, both in county Cork, Castlemartyr and Dunboy Castle before if ran into financial difficulties.  Since Schulze’s departure and the company’s sale to Pontiac Land, it moved to a headquarters in Singapore, focused on growth in Asia and establishing two distinct brands: Capella Hotels & Resorts and Patina Hotels & Resorts. 

The group has 16 hotels based in Bangkok, Elanan, Hainan, Hanoi, Kenting, Kyoto, Macau, Nanjing, Riyadh, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei, Ubud and Yang Yang, Capella Bangkok and Capella Singapore both ranked in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2023.

During their stay, guests have the option to take part in a selection of experiences as part of the Capella Curates programme, which aims to “connect travellers to Taipei’s master artisans, culinary virtuosos and historic landmarks.”
