The Dromineer Bay Hotel in Tipperary is set for a major redevelopment after receiving planning permission.
The proposal includes demolishing the existing hotel structure and constructing a two-storey mixed-use building with event spaces, offices, a bar, and other amenities. There are also plans for tourism-related retail and commercial spaces, a restaurant, a café, and external terraces.
The development will feature new accommodation, including terrace units and apartments, and enhancements to the existing holiday homes at Waterside Cottages.
Other modifications involve the access road, parking areas, and surface water arrangements. Local residents have expressed support for the project, stating that it will bring economic activity, employment, and enhance the village of Dromineer. (population 94)
The plans were approved with 19 conditions on November 21. The permission states: “It is noted that the parking area to the north of the hotel forms part of the development site and property. However, access to the Lough Derg Yacht Club (LDYC) is, and has always been, via this land. LDYC is an important amenity in Dromineer from a cultural, social, historic and economic standpoint. It is also important to the Development Plan objective to promote Dromineer as a tourism destination and a centre of excellence for water-based leisure activities.”
