Dublin Airport is seeking a planning exemption to bypass council controls and end a logjam on expansion at the airport.

This request coincides with Fingal County Council’s assessment of the Dublin Airport Authority’s €1.5bn proposal to increase the airport’s annual passenger cap to 40m.

The actions of both Dublin Airport and Fingal County Council reflect ongoing frustration over the airport’s expansion plans and potential impacts on aviation capacity. Kenny jacobs told an Oireachtas hearing in February that the process could mean no growth at the airport for four years until the process is completed.
