Dublin City Council has opened the new Palmerston Park Tea-Rooms in Rathgar. The Lord Mayor of Dublin has performed the official opening on 9 April 2026. Copper & Straw has taken operation of the facility.
The project has transformed a former depot building into a café with indoor and outdoor seating plus fully accessible public toilet facilities. The initiative has formed part of Dublin City Council’s strategy to improve city parks through quality cafés and public facilities. Similar tearooms have operated successfully in St Anne’s Park, Herbert Park, St Patrick’s Park and Harold’s Cross Park.
John Dorman of Dorman Architects has provided the design while Tolmac Construction has carried out the building work. Dublin City Council has thanked the Dublin City Parks team for support during construction. The Council has wished success to Stephen Kennedy and the Copper & Straw team in running the new venue.
Cllr Ray McAdam shared “Tearooms such as this encourage people to spend more time in our parks as places to meet, relax and enjoy their surroundings.”
