
Fitzpatrick hotel group has hosted travel media at its oldest and newest hotels, the flagship Killiney Castle first purchased by Paddy Fitzpatrick in 1971, and Woodenbridge Hotel purchased by his grandsons Mark and Joseph Scott Lennon in August 2024.
Group MD Joseph Scott Lennon, said the standout for the hotel was its location in the Vale of Avoca, known for its natural surroundings and outdoor activities. and dedicated team, with many staff members, including the hotel manager and deputy manager, having over 20 years of experience. Woodenbridge’s reception area is festooned with historic photographs of famous guests, including John Redmond, Michael Colins and Eamon de Valera.
Mr Scott Lennon highlighted the importance of customer focus and empowering staff to create memorable experiences. He said the hospitality sector faces challenges, including attracting long-term staff and rising business costs, particularly significant increases in food prices, such as a 35pc rise in beef costs this year.
The group, including Travel Extra, met at the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel for welcome drinks and pizza waiting on the terrace and an engaging padel session led by a professional instructor followed on the hotel’s new €117,000 courts, where guests sampled the sport’s blend of tennis and squash.
After dinner at the Mapas Restaurant soon took centre stage, offering a charming menu to please every palate, the evening wrapped up at the Dungeon Bar with music and after-dinner drinks.
The second day began with breakfast at PJ’s Restaurant, a scenic journey to and tour of Avondale Beyond the Trees with Dave Ballesty and lunch at the Gastro Bar at Woodenbridge Hotel.
While the golfers set off for the course, non-golfers took the opportunity to explore Avoca Mills and enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Red Kite Walk. The group reconvened for cocktails before indulging in dinner at the Smokehouse Restaurant.
