Galway City Council has denied planning permission for a significant expansion of the Victoria Hotel in the city centre, proposed by Byrne Hotel Management.

The rejected plan included an 8 to 9 storey extension with 91 new bedrooms, a rooftop bar, event area, conference rooms, and additional bars on the ground floor.

The council cited concerns about potential environmental impacts on the Galway Bay protected area and the negative impact on local traffic during both construction and operation of the hotel.
