The IHF has condemned a 9.8pc rise in water charges for businesses effective from 1st October 2025. This increase follows a 30pc hike in water charges for hotels compared to the previous year.
Over two years, the average 70-bedroom hotel in Ireland faces an increase of over 40pc in water tariffs. The hospitality sector, as a major water consumer, struggles to absorb these cost increases, threatening business viability.
The IHF calls for a fairer funding model to ensure the sustainability of Irish water services and support SMEs.
Michael Magner shared, “This is yet another example of the relentless increases in operating costs. Over a two-year period, the average 70-bedroom hotel in Ireland will have seen an increase of over 40pc in water tariffs. The cumulative impact of these and other cost increases now poses a serious threat to the viability of many businesses. “It is now imperative that the Government tackles these increases head on. We are calling for a fairer funding model that supports the long-term sustainability of Irish water services.”
