The International Air Transport Association (IATA) will host the World Sustainability Symposium (WSS) in Miami, USA on 24-25 September 2024, focusing on actions necessary to achieve the airline industry’s goal of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050, with American Airlines as the host.
Key elements to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050 will be addressed at the WSS, including decarbonization, innovation and technology, policy and regulation, and finance and transparency, aiming to develop, scale, and deliver solutions for decarbonizing aviation over the next 25 years.
The symposium aims to unite decision-makers across sectors to decarbonize air transportation, emphasizing the need for radical collaboration in technology, policy, and finance to reach the net-zero emissions target by 2050, requiring urgent action due to the short timeframe for markets to mature.
The WSS, expected to draw over 500 professionals from various sectors, will feature opening remarks by key figures such as Robert Isom, CEO of American Airlines, and a CEO panel with industry leaders discussing sustainability, technology, and finance in advancing the net-zero emissions agenda. More information on the event and the programem is available on IATA’s website.
