India updates regulations on fractional aircraft ownership

0

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has drafted amendments to modernise regulations for fractional aircraft ownership, set for introduction in April 2026 and enforcement from June. The changes establish a dedicated operator category with defined ownership rules, simplified taxation, and enhanced regulatory supervision. At present, fractional operators function under non-scheduled operator permits designed for charter services.

The updates follow four years of discussions to create a clearer framework for this segment of business aviation. Officials expect the revised rules to support growth in private aircraft usage while maintaining safety standards. The move responds to industry requests for structures better suited to shared ownership models.
