Michael O’Leary, CEO of Ryanair Holdings, has re-expressed interest in establishing a package holiday division to compete with easyJet’s successful holiday offerings, stating it could help generate higher fares and yields.
He cautioned his comments by saying that any potential move into the holiday sector would be considered only after maximising growth from their existing fleet, which is currently expanding with new Boeing aircraft.
Ryanair and its subsidiaries operate a substantial fleet of 590 aircraft, including various models of the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, with 193 additional aircraft on order.
EasyJet’s holiday division, launched five years ago, has proven to be a significant success, with projections indicating a pre-tax profit of over €213m for 2024.
Ryanair previously claimed they would become the Amazon of travel by moving into the holiday sector in 2016 but abandoned the plans after just two months.
