The European Commission was prepared to intervene with interim measures if JetBlue Airways could not secure the slots it needed for the upcoming summer season at Amsterdam Schiphol, but it is now satisfied that the American carrier has obtained all necessary slots, ensuring continued operations at the airport and providing passengers with increased competition and choice for transatlantic flights.
Despite initial challenges in obtaining desired slots due to capacity constraints and noise restrictions at Amsterdam Schiphol, JetBlue managed to enhance its slot portfolio during later stages of the allocation procedure, as confirmed by the EU competition watchdog in a recent statement.
JetBlue, which launched daily services between New York JFK and Amsterdam in August 2023 and between Boston and Amsterdam in September 2023, noted in its annual report a significant increase in transatlantic capacity share from 1.5pc in 2022 to 3.1pc in 2023, highlighting the positive impacts of its new routes and operational improvements.
