Kelvin Hotels is expanding by purchasing the Temple Gate Hotel in Ennis from the Madden family, with speculation that the deal exceeds €7m.
The 70-bedroom hotel will maintain its operations, staff, and services during the transition under the new ownership by local hoteliers Dermot Kelly and John Gavin.
Temple Gate Hotel, notable for its Gothic architecture and historical significance as a converted convent, features a Great Hall, a traditional pub, an award-winning restaurant, and meeting rooms.
The sale reflects ongoing investor interest in well-located hotels, and the Madden family expresses pride in their legacy, looking forward to new opportunities for the hotel under Kelvin Hotels’ stewardship.
John Hughes CBRE Hotels shared: “The sale of this long-established family hotel business confirms the continued interest from investors in well-located hotels. The Temple Gate Hotel has developed a popular corporate and leisure business over many years under the stewardship of the Madden Family.”
Paul Madden shared: “It’s a success story of which we are incredibly proud. My father, John, lived and breathed the hospitality industry in every moment of his working life. However, now is the time that feels right for us to sell our business and I personally look forward to the new and exciting opportunities that lie ahead. Our hope is that under new ownership, the Temple Gate Hotel will begin a bright new chapter in its continuing story.”
