The European Commission has not commented on reports that Lufthansa Group made additional concessions to gain approval for its merger with ITA Airways.

Concerns over a potential veto of the deal by the Commission have heightened, with Italy lobbying for approval and Lufthansa emphasizing the importance of the merger for ITA Airways’ survival.

Talks have focused on competition issues related to long-haul routes to North America, with the Commission seeking a longer commitment from Lufthansa Group to keep ITA’s business separate from its transatlantic joint venture.

The deadline for the Commission to make a decision on the deal has been extended to July 4, 2024, with no new documents filed on the case. Lufthansa Group remains confident that the Commission will approve the merger.
