Marriott International announced plans to acquire Dutch lifestyle hotel group citizenM for $355m on 28 April 2025. Founded in 2007, citizenM has grown to a portfolio of 36 hotels across 20 cities.
The acquisition will include long-term franchise agreements with the seller, allowing Marriott to leverage its resources to expand the citizenM brand.
CitizenM is to open its first Dublin hotel this summer opposite Saint Patrick’s cathedral. The Molyneux House site will comprise 245 rooms across nine-storeys once complete. It will offer co-working spaces, a living room filled with art, designer furniture and a 24/7 CanteenM serving breakfast, coffee, cocktails, and grab-and-go food.
Members of the mycitizenM+ programme will be able to enjoy perks including discounted stays, late check-out, and free co-working. The brand says it is actively seeking further opportunities in Dublin city centre.
Anthony Capuano, president and CEO of Marriott International shared: “As we continue to drive best-in-class experiences for travellers, today’s announcement builds upon Marriott’s commitment to enhance options for guests and Marriott Bonvoy members. Marriott has a proven track record of growing acquired brands significantly by leveraging our global development ecosystem.’
