French police have investigated claims that a hairdryer manipulated a temperature sensor at Charles de Gaulle Airport to win a weather bet. Officials examined the incident after readings spiked on 6 April and 15 April. Bets on Polymarket yielded winnings that totalled $34,000 (€29,069).
Temperatures recorded 21C at 7pm on one date and 22C at 9.30pm on the other exceeded expectations. The probability of temperatures above 18C on both days stood at 1pc. One trader secured $21,000 on 15 April. Authorities shifted the data source to Paris-Le Bourget Airport.
Meteo-France filed a complaint for alteration of an automated data processing system with the Air Transport Gendarmerie Brigade of Roissy based on physical findings and sensor analysis. Meteo-France shared in a rittern statement “In view of physical findings on one of our instruments and the analysis of sensor data Meteo-France was indeed led to file a complaint for alteration of the operation of an automated data processing system with the Air Transport Gendarmerie Brigade of Roissy.” The same spokesperson shared “As the investigation is ongoing we do not wish to make any further comments in order to ensure the proper conduct of the procedure.” Sebastien Brana from the Infoclimat Association shared “There was work done on the station’s shelter yesterday that led to these aberrant readings.”
