WinterFest Mullingar is continuing its seasonal programme with the Christmas market scheduled for Mount Street on 13 and 14 December, featuring local food and crafts from Taste of Westmeath producers.
The event followed the ice rink opening at Blackhall car park in November and the lights switch-on in Market Square. Mullingar Chamber organised the festival in partnership with Westmeath County Council, which provided funding and site support. The market used twelve timber huts for vendors, with road closures in place from 12 to 15 December to facilitate setup.
The ice rink operated daily until 5 January, offering public sessions and school bookings. Organisers aimed to attract visitors to town centre retailers and hospitality businesses during the holiday period.
The chamber reported strong attendance at the lights event hosted by Noel O’Farrell and the Mullingar Panto group. WinterFest encompassed family entertainment, music, and markets to promote Mullingar as a festive destination.
Westmeath Council esuports the initiative through grants for community events. Visitors accessed the rink via irelandskates.ie for bookings, with reduced rates for groups. The programme concluded in early January without further major additions announced.
