Nigeria has unveiled its 20 year civil aviation master plan for 2025 to 2045 and has prepared the document together with the International Civil Aviation Organisation. The plan aligns with the country National Development Plan and positions aviation as a driver of long term economic growth.

Aviation minister Festus Keyamo presented the master plan at the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium in Marrakech on 14 April 2026. The document prioritises airport modernisation aerotropolis development new technologies and stronger safety security and environmental standards. It also focuses on workforce development and the deployment of advanced technologies such as unmanned aerial systems. The plan aims to attract investment expand cargo and maintenance infrastructure and strengthen Nigeria role as a regional aviation hub.

The master plan marks a milestone in modernisation and expansion of the Nigerian aviation sector. Work on the initiative started in September 2024 with a training programme on civil aviation master planning that involved key stakeholders. The 20 year roadmap covers infrastructure upgrades and aligns with global aviation standards.
