The performance has marked the anniversary of the world premiere of Messiah that George Frideric Handel conducted on 13 April 1742 in a concert hall steps from the location. Dublin City Council has supported the initiative by Our Lady’s Choral Society. Audiences have gathered on the street where the historic event began.

The oratorio has formed a central part of Western music history since its debut in Dublin. Singers and musicians have delivered selections from the work in the open air. Admission has remained free for all attendees.

Dublin City Council shared “Dublin City Council is proud to support Our Lady’s Choral Society in marking the anniversary of one of the most remarkable evenings in musical history.”
