Paul Kelly is moving to become CEO of the RDS in September after serving as CEO of Fáilte Ireland for eight years.
Geraldine Ruane stepped down from her role in the RDS in July 2023, shortly before the Dublin Horse Show, for reasons not publicly explained.
Liam Kavanagh, former managing director of The Irish Times, has been fulfilling the role of interim chief executive.
The RDS, founded in 1731, is a membership organisation dedicated to improving the economic and cultural development of Ireland and is preparing for its 300th anniversary in 2031.
Planning permission was secured in August 2023 for the redevelopment of the Anglesea Stand at the RDS arena, part of a €52m project due for completion in autumn 2026, which will enhance facilities to accommodate events like the Dublin Horse Show and host a new indoor music arena with a capacity of 20,000.
Chairperson of Fáilte Ireland Ruth Andrews shared: “Paul’s contribution to its success over the past 8 years has been exceptional. I would like to thank him for his leadership and contribution to the sector, which leaves Fáilte Ireland and the tourism industry in a strong position and well primed for future success. We wish him all the best in his future career endeavours.”
RDS president John Dardis shared: “Paul’s distinguished career, marked by significant achievements in both the public and private sectors, makes him an ideal leader for the RDS as we embark on a period of exciting change and prepare to celebrate our 300th anniversary in 2031.”
