While 2,600 new hotel rooms were added in the Dublin region in 2023, bringing the total number of hotel rooms in the city to over 24,000, it is not enough, according to the the Mitchell McDermott Annual Construction Sector Report.

The construction of these rooms contributed €470m to the construction sector.

The future pipeline for hotel development in Dublin is positive, with approximately 3,000 more rooms expected to be delivered by 2025.

However, concerns have been raised about potential planning restrictions on hotels that may slow down future development.

Developers have already been granted planning permission for an additional 7,281 rooms across Co Dublin, with more applications being sought for hotels that could deliver another 2,134 rooms.

There is a growing supply crunch in the hotel sector, leading to high room prices during peak periods and potentially impacting the tourism and business sectors in Dublin.
