TAROM has sold its Heathrow slots to Qatar Airways, effective from 27 October

Qatar Airways will operate a daily Boeing 777 service using the acquired slots, increasing its current frequency of services between Doha Hamad International and Heathrow from up to 8 daily to up to 9 daily.

British Airways, Qatar Airways’ joint venture partner, also operates flights between Heathrow and Doha.

Qatar Airways has yet to officially announce the acquisition of the slots to the media. The transaction was announced by Heathrow slot coordinator Airport Coordination Limited (ACL) and will take effect on October 27, 2024.

It indicates the departure of Tarom from England at the end of the current Summer 2024 season. Tarom will continue to operate 25 services from Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport. Tarom served Dublin-Bucharest until 2014 when Ryanair launched direct flights on the route, an irony considering Ryanair had commenced flying with BAC One-Eleven aircraft purchased from Tarom.
