AirNav Ireland conducted a recent trial with Ryanair and Aer Lingus at Cork Airport, implementing shorter arrival routings during quieter traffic periods, resulting in an estimated CO₂ savings of approximately 66,000 kilos.

The 30-day trial saw a reduction of around 21,000 kilos of fuel, translating to the aforementioned CO₂ savings. The fuel saved during the trial could theoretically fly an aircraft from Dublin to New York.

Peter Kearney, CEO of AirNav Ireland, expressed appreciation for the airport and airlines’ collaboration in these trials, highlighting their commitment to reducing Irish aviation’s environmental impact.

Based on the successful results of the trial, AirNav Ireland, along with Irish airlines, will continue exploring innovative approaches to introducing environmentally friendly initiatives in Irish controlled airspace, with plans to expand such trials to other airports where feasible.
