The Sri Lankan government has delayed the decision on selling a stake in SriLankan Airlines until after the upcoming presidential election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

Plans to sell a 51pc stake in the state-owned airline were halted as none of the six interested parties were deemed suitable.

The government intends to sell the stake but will develop an alternative strategy for the sale post-election. The minister overseeing SriLankan Airlines, Nimal Siripala de Silva, aims to restructure the airline without specifying details.

SriLankan Airlines operates to 37 airports in 21 countries with a fleet of 22 aircraft, including a mix of Airbus A320 and A330 models.
