Stuttgart Airport resumed flight operations on the evening of Monday, 5 October 2026, following a 90-minute shutdown triggered by a fake bomb threat. The incident began around 16:30 local time when a 24-year-old German national informed a security employee that he was carrying a bomb in his luggage. In response, Germany’s Federal Police evacuated the entire airside security area, moving approximately 2,000 passengers back into the public terminal areas. All arrivals and departures were suspended. A total of 29 flights were disrupted, which included 10 arriving aircraft being diverted to other airports like Nuremberg. Because the security area was completely cleared, all evacuated passengers had to undergo aviation security screening for a second time, causing knock-on delays that lasted for several hours.

Police systematically searched the terminals and baggage, officially ruling out any actual danger and reopening the security checkpoints at 18:05 local time. The 24-year-old passenger was barred from boarding his scheduled flight to Hurghada, Egypt. State police have opened a preliminary criminal investigation against him on suspicion of disturbing the public peace by threatening to commit criminal offences. He was released from custody after police completed their initial procedures.
