Tom Moran, synonymous with Moran’s Red Cow hotel on the N7, passed away in March last year at the age of 72, leaving behind an estate valued at over €21m.

In his will, dated August 12, 2019, he appointed his children, John and Karen, to manage trust funds established in his testamentary document.

Moran had a dynamic career spanning over 50 years, during which he experienced both the highs and lows of building a legacy of successful public houses and a significant hotel portfolio.

Initially a licensee in England, Tom and his family relocated to Limerick in the 1980s, where they began acquiring public houses, eventually acquiring the Red Cow Inn in 1988 and expanding their holdings in Dublin.

Under his leadership, Moran Hospitality transitioned to focus predominantly on the hotel sector, successfully launching the Red Cow Moran Hotel in 1996 and later expanding their portfolio to include Bewley’s Hotels before selling it to Dalata in 2014.

Despite suffering a life-threatening stroke in 2016, Tom made an incredible recovery, later abseiling from the Red Cow Moran Hotel to raise funds for a Brain Disease Resource Centre, and continued to oversee Moran Hospitality until his passing, with his children now managing the business.
