Dublin City Council launched its new Tourism Strategy 2023-2028 at the UCLG Global Culture Summit.
The strategy acknowledges the pivotal role in the tourism industry and its impact on the city’s economy and aims to expand the Dublin tourism experience to include a wider range of people and activities.
The strategy focuses on four pillars: people, places and spaces, culture, climate action and sustainability, and innovation, data, and insights.
Supporting documentation at the launch stated its aims to create a people-centred, sustainable, and innovative tourism industry while utilising technology and fostering cultural connections. The strategy prioritises the collection of robust data to support policy objectives and climate goals.

Mary MacSweeney, acting executive manager culture recreation and economic services, Dublin City Council said, “Dublin is one of the most popular destinations in Europe and is a key driver for tourism throughout the island of Ireland. Our new tourism strategy is underpinned by the UN sustainable development goals and the signing of the Glasgow declaration on sustainable tourism, will focus on developing Dublin as a destination, which works for visitors, locals and our environment.
The tourism plan stated: “We recognise that tourism in Dublin happens in a variety of places and spaces and that we play a key role in facilitating the design, development, management, presentation and cleanliness of the buildings, venues, streets and neighbourhoods that make up the Dublin visitor experience. We will ensure visitor infrastructure and services under our remit create and foster interesting, accessible, sustainable and inclusive facilities and experiences for both visitors and locals alike.”
