The United States Department of Transportation is investigating Delta Air Lines for its handling of over 6,000 cancelled flights following a global IT outage at cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.
Delta and its regional affiliates accounted for about two-thirds of all flight cancellations worldwide on July 22, almost a week after the IT outage.
The airline stated that CrowdStrike’s faulty Windows update caused its IT systems to become inoperable, impacting its ability to provide reliable on-time service.
Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced the investigation and Delta is working to restore its normal service following the IT issues.
