Virgin Atlantic is suspending its Heathrow-Shanghai route due to increased flight times and costs caused by the inability to overfly Russia.

The final service from Heathrow to Shanghai will operate on 25 October, 2024, with the final Heathrow-bound flight on 26 October.

Virgin will contact affected customers from 18 July to discuss bookings and offer refunds

This decision follows the suspension of Virgin’s Heathrow-Hong Kong route in October 2022 after almost 30 years of operation, also due to operational complexities related to the Russian airspace closure. Competing Chinese carriers are allowed to overfly Russia.
