Olivier Perillat of Club Med interviewed at Indaba 2024.: “Club Med is a 75-year-old established business within the hospitality space, with extensive experience in welcoming customers at upscale, all-inclusive resorts around the world. In South Africa, we are proud to announce that we have started the construction of a large-scale resort with about 500 rooms. In terms of scale, it’s arguably the largest in the city since 1979, with a total budget in excess of 2 billion rand.

We anticipate a massive need for recruitment and are proud to say that we will create 800 direct jobs. There will be about 160 different job titles involved in the good operation of this resort. Additionally, we know that there will be another 1,500 indirect job creations related to the entire environmental ecosystem around the resort and the value chain. This includes passenger transfers, food supply, and many other jobs that will benefit from this exposure.

Last but not least, I would like to highlight the scale of the project: there will be 1,200 people working full-time on the construction of this resort. Africa Travel Indaba is a fantastic Pan-African event. I heard one of the guest speakers mentioning that at least 30 African countries are represented here. Additionally, we have a lot of international buyers, making it the perfect place to showcase and announce this kind of positive news for South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal, and the continent as a whole.”
