Pieter Elbers, CEO of Indigo and chair of the IATA Congress in Delhi, has contrasted the passenger cap at Dublin airport with the situation in India.
He said that, in India, aviation is viewed as a force for good in India, driving employment and progress in the country while facilitating a vision for the future. India is undergoing significant aviation development, with new airports being established to support economic growth and job creation.
He said the announcement of a second airport in both Delhi and Mumbai responds to growing populations and economic demands, particularly in Mumbai as a financial hub.
Recent statistics reveal that every rupee or dollar invested in aviation generates three rupees or dollars in return, illustrating the sector’s importance to the economy.
Despite challenges faced in Europe, the desire for travel remains strong, reinforcing the need for continual investment and development in aviation infrastructure.
Pieter Elbers shared: “Aviation is a force for good and I think that’s very much embraced here in India itself. Every rupee or every dollar invested in aviation is creating three rupees or three dollars in return. This year will have a second airport in Delhi, a second airport in Mumbai. India has taken over this week or last week Japan as the fourth largest economy in the world. People love to travel anyway and the entire drive for mobility will continue to be there.”
