Freenow by Lyft released data showing increased taxi usage among young adults in Ireland linked to busier social lives.

  • 76pc of 18 to 24 year olds travelled by taxi more often than 12 months earlier.
  • Among 25 to 34 year olds 86pc increased their taxi use.
  • 41pc of 18 to 24 year olds went out more frequently compared to the previous year.
  • Leisure purposes accounted for most recent taxi trips with 70pc for 18 to 24 year olds and 65pc for 25 to 34 year olds.

Speed reliability and convenience ranked as top reasons for choosing taxis over public transport.

Danny O’Gorman shared “It’s clear that young people are socialising now more than ever whether that’s in the form of nights out or spending time with friends and family. Taxis offer young people a mode of transport that works around their busy social lives getting them exactly where they need to be quickly and efficiently. This is especially the case at night when other available public transport is reduced. We know that affordability is a concern for this age group which is why Freenow by Lyft offers different pricing options such as our Saver Fleet allowing passengers to save up to 15pc off the price of their fare.”
