Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay has reopened following an extensive renovation programme. The Jamaica resort now offers updated facilities for guests. The property forms part of the Bahia Principe portfolio in the Caribbean.
The Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay (formerly Bahia Principe Luxury Runaway Bay) officially reopened its doors on April 1, 2026, following a major renovation and rebranding.
The resort was temporarily closed in late 2025 due to damage from Hurricane Melissa. The reopening marks a strategic shift for the brand as it integrates into the World of Hyatt loyalty program and introduces new sub-brands, including “Bahia Principe Escape” for its adults-only properties.
The refurbishments focused on modernising public spaces and enhancing the culinary experience:
- Dining Upgrades: Three major restaurants were completely refurbished:
- Jazmín: The main buffet restaurant.
- Picasso: Serving Mediterranean cuisine.
- Thali: A brand-new Indian cuisine restaurant.
- Public Areas: The lobby terrace has been extended, and the lobby bar was fully redecorated.
- Property Status: It remains a 5-star, adults-only, all-inclusive destination.
Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica: The adjacent, family-friendly property is currently undergoing a more comprehensive refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen on December 1, 2026.
Employment Impact: The reopening has restored roughly 800 jobs to the local tourism sector.
