China may announce a substantial Airbus aircraft order during a summit with European leaders in July 2023, potentially reaching as many as 500 aircraft.
The order could include a mix of narrowbody and widebody aircraft and discussions surrounding it are described as “fluid”.
Chinese carriers currently hold a total of 323 aircraft orders with Airbus, far exceeding the 139 aircraft on order from Boeing.
“To date, China’s largest deal with Airbus was in July 2022 when Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, and Shenzhen Airlines agreed to buy 292 A320 Family aircraft.”
If finalised, the upcoming order could be one of the largest ever placed in aviation history and could negatively impact Boeing’s presence in the Chinese market.
