An Coimisiún Pleanála has approved upgrades for Inis Cealtra (Holy Island) and Mountshannon Village to enhance their cultural and tourism appeal.

Proposed developments include welfare pods, a weather shelter, water closets, and an upgraded jetty, primarily using prefabricated timber components.

Mountshannon will see a new car park, upgrades to the harbour car park, and landscaping enhancements to support sustainable tourism.

The project aligns with the Shannon Tourism Masterplan and Clare Tourism Strategy 2030, funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.

Further development depends on additional funding, building on the recently opened Inis Cealtra Visitor Experience.

Deirdre O’Shea shared: “The new development, subject to funding received, will further enhance the newly opened Inis Cealtra Visitor Experience which celebrates the unique cultural and natural heritage of Holy Island. This planning and design process is committed to ensuring this development is carried out sustainably, preserving the beauty and history of this iconic site for generations to come.”
