KLM has welcomed the official start of construction on the Netherlands’ first factory dedicated to producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), facilitated through support for SkyNRG’s project in Delfzijl.
This milestone represents a significant step in advancing local production of eco-friendly jet fuel to lower aviation’s carbon emissions. The initiative aligns with KLM’s long-term sustainability goals and commitment to innovative fuel solutions. It demonstrates collaboration between airlines and specialised producers to scale SAF availability.
The factory aims to contribute substantially to the aviation sector’s decarbonisation efforts in Europe. KLM’s involvement underscores its role in enabling such infrastructure developments. The project is expected to boost domestic SAF supply, reducing reliance on imports. This development supports broader industry targets for net-zero emissions by mid-century.
The announcement highlights progress in practical implementation of sustainable technologies. It positions the Netherlands as a leader in green aviation fuel production. KLM continues to invest in and advocate for SAF to meet regulatory and environmental demands. The release emphasises the collaborative nature of achieving greener aviation.
