
Minister for Tourism Peter Burke’s Tourism Policy Framework 2025-2030 comes before the Dail for debate today.
The 61-point document replaces the 2015 policy that expired last year and cleared initial Cabinet review without opposition. Public consultation closed in April 2025 with 1840 submissions including objections from farmers to visitor pressure on working lands. Taoiseach Simon Harris described tourism as the state’s largest indigenous employer and pledged cross-department delivery.
A Tourism Leadership Group meets for the first time on 20 November with members from departmental secretaries agency heads local authority chiefs and industry representatives.
The framework awaits full Dáil debate and includes further revised estimates for public services and private members bills without tourism policy statements.
Work continues to align the framework with programme for government commitments on sustainability regional growth and emission reductions. Targets include 5.6pc annual revenue growth from overseas and domestic visitors reduction of carbon emissions per visitor bed night by 60pc and year-round jobs nationwide. Tourism Ireland receives over €65m for 2025 marketing across 13 overseas markets.
