Restoration of the railway line between Derry and Portadown could take up to 20 years to complete according to the Rail Project Prioritisation Strategy.
The strategy identifies the Derry to Portadown reinstatement as a major project requiring significant intervention. Planning approval for the link extending to Letterkenny should be processed within the next ten years. Early interventions included a spur at Portadown station to prepare for the line. The project aimed to improve cross-border connectivity and regional access with a timelines ranged from five to 20 years across prioritised schemes under the All-Island Strategic Rail Review.
