Willie Walsh expressed concerns about the risks to civil aviation during the press conference at IATA Congress in Delhi.

He stressed that disputes and conflicts worldwide should not endanger civil aviation and outlined the industry’s clear stance to the UN Security Council.

Walsh urged governments to acknowledge their responsibilities to protect civil aviation from both unintentional actions and deliberate targeting of airports.

He noted that the global aviation industry has operated on principles of safety and responsibility.

A forthcoming assembly in Montreal in September and October 2023 by IKO will further address these critical issues related to aviation safety.

Willie Walsh shared: “It’s unacceptable for civil aviation to be put at risk as a result of disputes and conflicts around the world. We made our views very clear to the UN Security Council based on threats to civil aviation that should not be happening. It’s very important that governments recognize their obligations and their responsibilities to ensure that civil aviation is not at risk either as a result of inadvertent activity or because of decisions that have been taken to target certain airports. That’s the aspect that’s going to be an area where there will be further focus as they address this in the forthcoming assembly in Montreal in September, October of this year.
