Donegal County Councillors have approved a five-year tourism strategy after reviewing an earlier version that omitted Malin Head as a key attraction.
Concerns over the lack of focus on Inishowen were raised during a council meeting, prompting the revision of the strategy.
Malin Head, the starting point of the Wild Atlantic Way, attracted 99,073 visitors in 2023 according to figures from Donegal County Council.
Visitor data for Sliabh Liag and Fanad Head revealed 160,000 and 101,591 visits respectively, contributing to the region’s appeal.
One Councillor Martin McDermott shared: “Fáilte Ireland had sent figures to the council and not included Malin Head. It was unacceptable that the site was left out of the strategy.”
