Dublin City Council planners have refused retention permission for the Giddy Dolphin in Temple Bar, due to concerns over over-concentration of licensed premises in the area.
The application to retain the change of use from retail to a licensed premises with food service was lodged by Keywell, the owners of the Clarence Hotel and Dollard House.
Planners believe that the proposal would erode cultural or artistic facilities in Temple Bar, undermine the character of the site and the amenities of nearby residents.
Declan O’Brien, a Temple Bar resident, was the sole objector to the application, citing an over-saturation of licensed premises in the area and concerns over normalizing a breach of existing planning conditions.
