Calls have emerged for Longford County Council to apply for funding under the new €7.5m Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund to develop a Museum of Music Ireland in the former Providers building on Lower Main Street.
The proposed immersive heritage attraction celebrates Longford’s strong links to Irish country music and aims to boost cultural tourism in the midlands.
The proposed museum would focus on Longford’s rich connections to Irish country music, potentially located in the vacant Providers building.
A new variation of the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), known as the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund, is considered a potential funding source with up to €7.5m available.
The proposal aims to complement the ongoing €7m redevelopment of the historic Connolly Barracks, which is already set to feature a cultural and community hub, including a new county museum and music facilities, funded by the EU THRIVE programme. The proposal aims to be ready for the upcoming funding application deadline, with suggestions to use previous, detailed plans for a museum.
