The Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival has been ranked as the second best summer food festival in Europe by Big 7 Travel.

This prestigious festival is celebrated every year on the last weekend of September and has been running since 1954, showcasing the region’s oyster heritage.

It follows the Sardine Festival in Portimão, Portugal, which took first place, and the Almo do Vinho Festival in Alenquer, Portugal, which came third.

The festival features a variety of activities including the World Oyster Opening Championship, where top oyster shuckers compete for accolades.

Big 7 Travel shared that “the joyful festivities are a main feature in the European summer food festival calendar, a joyful weekend of shellfish, live music, dancing, activities, demonstrations, and more.”
