The Greek government is rolling out a new visiting tax for cruise ship guests effective July 1, 2025, following a law passed in 2024.

Mykonos and Santorini will have the highest charges, with passengers paying 20 euros per visit during peak summer months.

The fee will decrease to 12 euros during shoulder seasons and drop to four euros for the winter season from early November to late March.

Proceeds from the fees will be directed to municipalities where ships arrive and the Ministries of Shipping and Tourism, with annual revenue estimates of 50 to 100 million euros.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis shared: “Greece does not have a structural overtourism problem … Some of its destinations have a significant issue during certain weeks or months of the year.”
